Japanese Kobe Beef Returns to Las Vegas Restaurants

Tourists and local residents in Las Vegas need no longer worry about their craving for Japan’s most prized beef cuts.  The famous Kobe and Wagyu beef are now allowed back into the US markets as the USDA has relaxed some of their import limitations for these expensive Japanese beef.

A ban was placed for two years on the Kobe and Wagyu beef due to an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Japanese cattle.  Upon further investigation by the USDA, the organization has deemed that there is a low risk for these beef cuts.  As of August, importation of whole cuts of boneless beef has resumed.

However, since September 14th, importation restrictions have been relaxed.  Some of the Las Vegas restaurants that are now serving these pricey Japanese beefs are the Social House, in Crystals at the City Center.

Kobe beef is highly prized among food connoisseurs as the cattle is grown in a low stress environment which results into this rich beef cut that steak lovers prize.  A certified Kobe Beef would get a meat score of 4 or 5.  When comparing  the a Kobe or Wagyu beef from a regular cut,  the former beef is so well marbled that the meat is lighter compared to other beef cuts.

When the USDA enforced the ban on Kobe or Wagyu beef, some dining establishments had resort to “fake” Kobe beef to cater to their customer’s cravings for this one of a kind steak cut.

Though this Japanese beef has now returned in the US, diner would have to pay a pretty penny to be able to indulge in this expense beef.  At the Social House, Kobe beef has been prepared and serve as sashimi or the more expensive cuts of rib eye or tenderloin steaks.

Other restaurants Las Vegas are waiting for their shipment Kobe beef to be delivered.  The Cut at the Palazzo are expecting that their shipment of beef will be cleared soon.  The high end restaurant offers American and Australian Wagyu but Japanese Wagyu would once again be included in the restaurant’s menu.

Great care has been taken when raising these Japanese cattle.  Before, there were reports that these cattle were fed beer or sake.  Yet presently,   these cattle are pampered with soft music where it creates a relaxed environment for these animals.

Besides these high end restaurants, the Kobe beef would also be offered to different butcher shops in the city and/or near Las Vegas Luxury homes.
